Karissa Wight, LMFT
Hello, I’m Karissa, a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist with a passion for helping individuals and families navigate life’s challenges. I specialize in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for both teens and adults, focusing on distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and improving interpersonal communication skills. I believe that everyone struggles with something, and having someone to talk through thought processes with can help us see issues in a different light. I firmly believe that everyone has the power and ability to change and become whoever they wish to be, given the right tools. Real change, in my view, comes from within the individual.
I hold two master’s degrees—one in general psychology and another in family therapy. I chose to pursue family therapy because I believe that lasting change occurs when everyone within a system is invited to participate, rather than focusing on just one individual. My decision to specialize in DBT stems from its effectiveness. DBT teaches specific coping skills and labels them in ways that help us slow down our thought processes, find balance, and avoid the extremes of today’s world.
I genuinely enjoy helping people. It’s both rejuvenating and challenging for me, constantly driving me to seek new ideas and approaches. When you work with me, you can expect a supportive and non-judgmental environment where we collaboratively explore your thoughts and feelings. Together, we’ll work on developing the skills you need to manage stress, improve relationships, and achieve your personal goals.

Life’s challenges can often leave us feeling disconnected, uncertain, or overwhelmed. In our work together, I strive to understand your unique story through the lens of attachment, exploring how early experiences shape the way you connect with yourself and others. Many of my clients experience intense emotions, fear of abandonment, difficulties in relationships, or patterns of self-blame and shame, often rooted in traumatic experiences. Together, we work to make sense of these patterns, build emotional safety, and create lasting change.

As a professional counselor, my primary mission is to empower individuals to realize and maximize their human potential. I believe that everyone possesses unique strengths and capabilities, and my role is to facilitate the journey of self-discovery, enabling individuals to formulate and achieve meaningful goals. By creating a supportive environment, I aim to meet clients where they are in their lives, guiding them through the complexities they face and helping them find their “how” to their “Y”—the deeper reason that fuels their aspirations.
My values are strongly rooted in Christianity, which shapes my approach to counseling. I hold the belief that every individual is inherently valuable and deserving of compassion and understanding. This framework instills in me a sense of gratitude for the simple things in life, a sentiment that I believe is crucial for overall well-being. Gratitude cultivates resilience, allowing us to shift our focus from what we lack to the abundance that surrounds us. By embodying this principle, I encourage clients to embrace a perspective that fosters positivity, helping them see the potential in themselves and in their circumstances.
Having a good perspective is imperative for navigating life’s challenges. I strive to help individuals develop a mindset that not only recognizes obstacles but also views them as opportunities for growth. Through our work together, I encourage clients to identify and overcome limiting beliefs, reframing their narratives to one of hope and possibility. This reframing supports them in creating a vision for a brighter future—one where they can take actionable steps toward fulfillment and happiness.
I am truly passionate about the transformative power of counseling. I look forward to collaborating with individuals on their journeys of personal growth, meeting them where they are, and helping them chart a course toward achieving their goals. Together, we will unlock their potential, fostering a sense of agency that empowers them to lead more fulfilling lives grounded in gratitude, perspective, and purpose.
